Footnote Management
A PowerPoint automation tool that helps you create and manage consistently formatted footnotes across your presentation.
What It Does
- Saves a shape's formatting and position as your default footnote template
- Creates new footnotes using your saved template
- Updates existing shapes to match your footnote template while preserving their text
- Maintains consistent footnote formatting throughout your presentation

How to Use It
Setting Up Your Footnote Template
- Create or select a shape that has the formatting and position you want for your footnotes
- Click "Set Footnote Settings" in the dropdown to save this shape as your template
- Confirm the success message
Adding or Updating Footnotes
- Select a slide where you want to add or update a footnote
- Choose one of these options:
- To create a new footnote: Make sure nothing is selected on the slide
- To update an existing shape: Select the shape you want to convert to a footnote
- Click on the Fix/Insert Footnote button in your PowerTools ribbon
- For new footnotes, you'll see a shape with default "Footnote" text
- Edit the text as needed while maintaining the template formatting
Tips
- Set up your footnote template early in the presentation design process
- Position your template footnote exactly where you want all footnotes to appear
- When updating existing shapes, their text content will be preserved
- If you need to change your footnote style, simply create a new shape with the desired formatting and click "Set Footnote Settings" again
- If you see a message about no template being found, you'll need to set up your template first by selecting an object with the size and format of your desired footnotes and saving this to be your default footnote settings by clicking "Set Footnote Settings" in the dropdown
- The footnote template stays saved until you change it, so you can use it across multiple presentation editing sessions
