Alignment Modes
PowerTools enhances PowerPoint's alignment capabilities by adding new ways to align objects using reference points and guides.
What It Does
- Expands PowerPoint's alignment options with three additional modes:
- Align to Reference Object
- Align to Guides
- Align to Slides (for multiple objects)
- Lets you save your preferred alignment settings between sessions
- Adds keyboard shortcuts for quick access to different alignment modes
When to Use It
- When you need to align objects to a specific reference object
- To quickly align objects to guides on your slide
- When aligning multiple objects to slide boundaries
- For consistent object alignment across your presentation
- When combining alignment with size matching
How to Use It
- Select the objects you want to align
- Choose your alignment mode:
- Align to Selection (PowerPoint default)
- Align to Reference Object
- Align to Guides
- Align to Slides
- Click your preferred alignment option (left, center, right, etc.)
- For guide alignment, click multiple times to cycle through available guides
Tips
- Use these keyboard shortcuts with any PowerPoint alignment tool:
- Shift-click: Align to Reference Object
- Alt-click: Align to Guides
- Ctrl-click: Match size to first selected object
- Shift + Alt-click: Cycle through guides in reverse order
- Set your preferred reference object (first or last selected) in PowerTools Settings
- Enable "Remember Between Sessions" to maintain your preferred alignment mode
- Combine Ctrl with other shortcuts (like Shift) to match size while aligning
- The Align to Slides mode works with both single and multiple objects
